Either way, I can get a nice chunk of my money back by selling the 5050 if I don't like it. Like Repost Share Copy Link Add to Next up Add to Next up Add to Next up Added.

The 5050 was a spontaneous purchase, which I figure that for $400, I'm getting the SRX board (worth close to $200 used on Ebay), and can always sell the 5050 for probably upwards of $300 or so (maybe more, maybe less). My thoughts were to get the XR and fill it with the remaining SRX's that aren't in the 5080, and keep the 5080 as well to get access to "older" sounds, while getting the full Fantom X soundset (half of which is missing from the Fantom G). These predecessors to the Fantom can be heard in many famous produc.

I'm looking for a way to get access to 7 SRX boards. The XV series by Roland is still popular and I think thats for a couple of good reasons. Gordon Reid checks it out with two of the new SRXformat sound expansion boards. Last night, I bought a 5050 on Ebay for $400 in "new" condition with the Supreme Dance SRX board in it. The XV88 is the first of Rolands new XV range of synths to sport a keyboard, and also adds all manner of realtime control facilities. (I'm about to launch the Ebay SS on the seller.I think he's pissed that he sold it so cheap and is dragging his feet on the shipping.) I should have it within the next few days. The sound department itself is where the XV-5080 really shines. With its big screen, the on-board editing is quick and easy, especially thanks to the intuitive button layout. I purchased a 5080 a few weeks back, fully loaded with the max sample RAM, 4 SR-JV boards, and 4 SRX boards for $600, but I still haven't received it yet. The Roland XV-5080 is one of Rolands biggest flagships synths, featuring 1083 base waveforms built in, a built-in sampler, COSM sound modelling module, 4xSRX and 4xSR-JV80 slots.
